Will therapy help me?
Although there is no guarantee, many people report positive results from therapy. Proven factors that increase the effectiveness of treatment include: 1) the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and client; 2) client motivation and participation; and 3) support system collaboration (family, school, work, medical).

If I come to therapy, does it mean that I have mental problems?
People come with varying degrees and severities of problems. For some, they start therapy to enhance the positive qualities they already possess and to work on the few minor issues as an added bonus. Regardless of your situation, please don’t let the stigma be an obstacle.

What about confidentiality?
I uphold the highest standard of confidentiality for clients. However, there are exceptions to confidentiality. The law requires me to break confidentiality when there is danger to self, others, and others’ properties. In addition, if the court subpoenas your records, I am legally obligated to respond. Otherwise, any release of information depends on your authorization.

Will this go on my record?
Therapy records are considered medical records and they are treated as private property.

How much does this cost?
My commitment is to serve a diverse community and meet the needs of people from all socio-economic backgrounds. Consequently, I offer a sliding scale fee for my clients. Please call to calculate your fee depending on your financial situation. I also provide documentation for reimbursements with insurance and flexible spending accounts.

How often do I have to come to therapy?
From my clinical experience, clients coming on a weekly basis tend to benefit the most from therapy due to the consistency and the continuity of the relationship and treatment. As treatment progresses, frequency may decrease gradually.

What does a therapy session look like?
During the initial meeting (on average 1.5 hrs.), I share the logistics of treatment and the client also shares the reason for coming and some background information. Then, the client and I develop a treatment plan together. In the following sessions (50-min for individuals and couples, 1.5-2 hrs for families and groups), we start the work of reducing symptoms in the order of severity according to the treatment plan.

What is your religion?
I am a Christian and I actively engage my clients to include their spirituality into the treatment. For Christians, I integrate Christian worldviews and belief system into the treatment plan; for non-Christians, I encourage explorations of spirituality in our sessions. To be clear, I do not attempt to convert nor coerce my beliefs onto my clients. Discussing spirituality is imperative for the development of a healthy, balanced, coherent life filled with loving and fecund relationships.

Do you have a cancellation policy?
I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Please make note of this to avoid unnecessary charges for a missed session.
